The use of blastocyst in IVF involves culturing a fertilized egg for 5 days in the laboratory before implanting it into the uterus. Since in natural conception the embryo enters the uterus at the blastocyst stage, it is believed that a blastocyst transfer in IVF improves implantation and pregnancy rate.
Benefits of Blastocyst transfer
- Increases the chances of pregnancy.
- Possible to do a single embryo without compromising results. Avoids multiple pregnancies and allows couples trying for second pregnancy to avoid twins.
