TESA/PESA - Sperm Retrieval Techniques for IVF

These are the sperm retrieval techniques for males having less production of sperms. The sperm can be less in number (oligospermia), less mobile (asthenospermia) or totally absent in the semen (azoospermia). These sperm disorders make it difficult for a person to make her partner pregnant and thereby results in infertility. This infertility is treated by using these sperm retrieval techniques, then isolating the healthy sperms and then using them for IVF (in vitro fertilization). Sperm extraction techniques like TESA, PESA, MESA and TESE are performed on different levels for male infertility treatments.

PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)

This technique is the most simple of all. It is performed in the cases where the testicle is producing sperm normally but they are not coming out. It can be due to any blockage in the vas deferens. In this technique, a needle is passed in the head of the epididymis and the fluid is aspirated. This fluid is then sent to the lab where the sperms are isolated from the fluid and then used for IVF or ICSI.

TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration)

This is similar to PESA technique as it also doesn’t involve any incision and only needle is needed. The fluid is aspirated from the testicles by inserting a needle. The fluid is collected in the syringe which is attached to the needle. This is then sent to the lab for IVF and ICSI.

There is another sperm retrieval procedure known as Micro TESE or Micro TESA that is used in the cases of non-obstructive azoospermia.

These sperm retrieval procedures are performed in routine by our fertility specialist in Delhi. Call us  (+91 45890000 | +91 9910120674) to achieve your dream of having a baby.
