Uterine Evaluation

Reproduction needs an egg and a sperm. The ideal place for both of them to fertilize and create an embryo (baby) is fallopian tube and then it rests in uterus for 38 weeks until delivery occurs.

So to conceive a baby, the mother must have her ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus in perfect health and position. Fertility depends on these factors which is why the uterus of the mother is evaluated in order to find any abnormality in the reproductive organs.

If any abnormality is found, then it is treated to achieve pregnancy.

Some of the most commonly performed uterine evaluation tests for fertility in the ferticity hospital Delhi are –

  1. Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) – hystero stands for uterus and salpingo stands for fallopian tubes. So in this diagnostic procedure, uterus and fallopian tubes are examined.  In this test, a balloon like catheter is inserted inside the cervix (inner part of vagina) and a dye is injected through that. The dye is radio-opaque, so that dye goes inside the uterus and fallopian tubes and we can access the blockage or diversion in the path of dye. HSG can tell us about blockage, swelling in fallopian tubes, polyps and fibroids in the uterus etc.

2. Sonosalpingogram (SSG) – In this test, the fallopian tubes and uterus are accessed with the help of ultrasound after injecting saline transvaginally. This test tells more about uterine lining health (inside and outside) rather than fallopian tubes.

3. Hysteroscopy – In this diagnostic test, the uterus and fallopian tube opening is tested with the help of a small hysteroscope. This hysteroscope is inserted vaginally to find out the health and pathology in the uterus and fallopian tubes to some extent.
